THE DESIGN
Thames Vista imagines the transformation of a riverside site in Newham, adjacent to the North Woolwich ferry terminal, in an area already undergoing major change. The design explores a new model for riverside housing by orienting the layouts, facades, and massing to ensure at least 90% of homes have a direct river view. The development could deliver an assortment of well lit, river facing, 1-, 2- & 3-bedroom apartments, whilst shaping a new public park that would complement Royal Victoria Gardens.
OUR ROLE
Pier Road is a speculative project, undertaken by Studio Woodford as part of their ‘what if’ research series. The site was targeted due to its potential to unlock the sites to the west of the North Woolwich ferry terminal, further expanding the critical mass that has already started to emerge to the east of the ferry terminal. The proposal explores the best way of optimising a waterside site, so that all homes have a view of the river Thames, not just those that run directly parallel to the water.
